Black Coffee

So I went through with the interview like I said I shouldn't, after some good advice from wise old Pog, an employee at the company.

I got it.

Although I now have a mock lesson on Friday morning which is being drummed up as just as much of an interview, maybe even more. But my foot is in the door. I've bought the props, including a super hero dog, any name suggestions would be great.

Although in the demo video, there is an alternate version to the song "Baby Shark" about monkeys which I believe I will be hearing and dancing to EVERY day for 6 months. Not sure what I've got myself into.

But it's what I wanted and will allow me to continue to live here. Today I have been dancing around the flat and as a matter of fact, as I move around the town. I'm in a rhythm. Berty, I'm looking forward to throwback thursday tomorrow!

I've found myself enjoying lots of little things more and laughing to myself of past memories (Berty introducing himself as cheese to our Italian relatives) or things that I see occurring in the street. I've been watching lots of pigeons and their behaviours, weirdly,

I love it when they think they've got a big bit of bread and are well happy, only to run off and try and bite it, drop it before another pesky pigeon snatches it and thus continues the cycle. They are the same the world over.

But this whole day became a great day, from the wake up with motive, through the online training, with the help of the coffee, and onto the afternoon. I went flat hunting and if I wasn't so worried about disappointing people I would consider it as a hobby. You meet some absolute characters, visit their house as if on an episode of cribs and they treat you to coffee and the like. As I write this All Saints - Black Coffee plays, please listen to it, its amazing.

I began in the student area, what a guy, the front-runner, living with 3 brazilian dudes in a belter of a room in a pretty cool area close to both the center and the beaches. Just need to plug into his internet. He may appear later in the stories.

The second one I sought out as he was near a golf course I have my eye on. Little did I know it's also across from a favela. Not again. But I steered the course round and to the flat. Amazing living room with two incredibly friendly and attention seeking dogs. The best bit! I felt less like renting every time he removed them from the room. It had a router, an Xbox in the room (couldn't see any games) and a view of, yes, the favela. But in trying to show me the internet he fudged things up on it quite a bit and almost keeping me captive until he could fix it, despite his wife having sent me the speedtest already. Not to fear dude, was never gunna get it once I walked out the station.

The last one was just past a mall and Olympic building clearly built for tourists and Olympians alike. It smelt and felt of Downtown Disney, very clean, a stark contrast to the surroundings of the last house, which got me thinking a hell of a lot politically. But there is no time for that now, back to the guy. He was a weirdly lovely guy, albeit he would continue to tell me sad stories; of heart attacks, Spanish men beating his mum and how he is struggling to keep the apartment. He seemed to fear the outside world a fair bit. I almost wanted to rent it just for him but the room wasn't ideal and no visitors allowed, it just didn't seem the vibe I'm looking for. I'm sorry my dude, I hope you find your renter.

One more to see this weekend.

I returned back on a metro which had a different occurence in between each stop. Quite a ride. Buskers lightening the mood, beautiful girls standing for older ladies. A lady laughing with me in Portuguese as she followed me to the center of the cabin to make way for others and then realising I would have to bustle through for the next 2 stop. Queue the larger ladies entering at the next stop, but I made it off. It was a really pleasant trip despite the busy-ness. The commuters actually talked, not everyone, but there were many conversations up and down the cabin. It felt good to be around.

I hope this mindset continues. Just to get through this next bit and settle into the job and the apartment and I can release many of my thoughts about my own path and continue to enjoy whats going on around me instead.

Oh, the Places You’ll Go!
